Ticagrelor


Mechanism of action:

Ticagrelor is a platelet P2Y₁₂ receptor antagonist and a triazolopyrimidine derivative. During platelet activation, adenosine diphosphate (ADP) binds to the P2Y₁₂ receptor on the platelet surface, promoting activation and conformational change of the GPIIb/IIIa receptor, which makes it more likely to bind fibrinogen and drive platelet aggregation to form thrombi. Ticagrelor reversibly inhibits the platelet P2Y₁₂ receptor, blocking ADP-mediated signaling and preventing thrombus formation.
