Ticarcillin

Mechanism of action:

Ticarcillin is a β-lactam antibiotic belonging to the carboxypenicillin class. The β-lactam ring of Ticarcillin binds to penicillin-binding proteins in bacteria and inhibits their transpeptidase activity, preventing cross-linking of peptidoglycan chains. This weakens the bacterial cell wall structure and ultimately causes bacterial lysis and death due to osmotic pressure.
