Trimethoprim


Mechanism of action:

Trimethoprim is an antifolate antibacterial agent and a diaminopyrimidine derivative. It selectively inhibits bacterial dihydrofolate reductase, preventing the conversion of dihydrofolic acid into tetrahydrofolic acid. This leads to reduced synthesis of DNA, RNA, and proteins, preventing normal bacterial proliferation.
