Vigabatrin


Mechanism of action:

Vigabatrin is a GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) metabolism inhibitor. Vigabatrin irreversibly inhibits GABA transaminase, preventing the normal metabolic clearance of GABA and increasing GABA concentrations in the brain. This leads to increased activation of GABA_A and GABA_B receptors, neuronal hyperpolarization, and enhanced inhibitory neurotransmission in the central nervous system.
