Is There Any Evidence of Life Preserved on Mars?

The habitable zone in the Solar System (Figure 1) includes not only Earth but also Mars. However, because the core of Mars has cooled and no longer generates thermal convection, its magnetic field has disappeared. As a result, Mars lacks an effective shield against solar wind, unlike Earth. This has allowed the Martian atmosphere to be gradually stripped away into space, leaving it extremely thin and causing the surface environment to become cold and arid.
