Morphological description
Heliopeltis johnsoni has a body length of approximately 5.5 cm. The glabella is prominently raised. Each eye lobe bears two spines of unequal size, one large and one small. The genal spines are long, and both the occipital spine and pleural spines are also well developed and elongated. The pygidial spines are similarly long. The thorax consists of ten segments, and the pygidium is triangular in shape.
Etymology
helio: Greek for 'sun'
peltis: Greek for 'shield'
johnson: a surname, honoring the provider of the paratype specimen
Biological description
This species was discovered in Morocco and represents the type species of the genus Heliopeltis. Its body is covered with numerous long spines arranged in a radiating pattern.
