Morphological description
Yunnanocephalus yunnanensis is a small trilobite, reaching approximately 2 cm in length. The body is anteriorly broad and gradually tapers posteriorly, giving it an overall oval shape. The genal angles are smoothly rounded and lack genal spines. The thorax consists of 14 segments, and the pygidium is small.
Etymology
Yunnan: refers to Yunnan
cephalus: Latin, meaning head
Biological description
Fossils of Yunnanocephalus yunnanensis have been collected from Yunnan Province, China, and it is especially common in the well-known Chengjiang Biota. This species is the type species of the genus, and Yunnanocephalus is currently the only genus within the family Yunnanocephalidae.
